8 ways to wear sheer, by Manish Malhotra

Different iterations of the sheer trend have dominated Spring/Summer ’13 international runways. At his rain-soaked June 4 show for the Cancer Patients Aid Association in Mumbai, designer Manish Malhotra translated the trend into his signature Indian ethnic style, using the usual mix of models and celebrities to make his point.

Working the through colour trend was nutritionist to the stars Pooja Makhija, wearing a sheer scarlet anarkali with white embroidery along the hemline breaking the monotone.

For the salwar-kurta, Malhotra streamlined the kurta silhouette and swapped the salwar for relaxed pants with practical pockets.

The Tinkerbell-shaped Ameesha Patel wore Malhotra’s favoured net sari, the staple of the Bollywood heroine, in pink and navy blue. Another lehenga sari in white and red with transparent odhni, offered a modern take on the traditional six-yard garment.

Malhotra also reinterpreted the neon trend onto an ethnic garment, pairing a sheer neon pink anarkali with burnt gold pants.
