IKFW 2015: Little champs shine in designer wear

Little kids upped the glam quotient at twin fashion shows held in Mumbai and New Delhi separately. India Kids Fashion Week (IKFW) in association with leading fashion online portal, Jabong, presented the third edition of fashion event for kids’ fashion in Mumbai on February 20 and 21 at the Hotel Lalit and in New Delhi, on February 28 to March 1, 2015 at The Grand Hotel.

Children confidently walked the ramp flaunting miniature designer wear by top designers and kids’ fashion labels like Vikram Phadnis, Ritu Beri, BIBA, O.K.S Boys, U R My Sunshine, NONA, Little Royals, Daughters Dream World, Brown Bows, Pink Cows, My Little Berry, Mimi & Maggi and Sheena.

IKFW fever catches up in Mumbai

The inaugural day witnessed glamorous creations by BIBA, Mimi and Maggie, Pink Cows by Pratima Anand, Sumit Das Gupta, Jabong and Kirti Rathore. The show started with Biba Girl’s magical summer collection showcasing finest colours of the season symbolizing a world in which everything is livelier and extraordinary. With fabrics, designs and motifs matching the girl’s imagination, the line is perfect partner for her summertime happiness.

Inspired by the little girl with laughter in her eyes, fire in her spirit, love in her heart and dance in her feet, Mimi and Maggie from Los Angeles, California showcased clothing that would appeal to the child and adult alike. The range had a modern Bohemian inspired look. Pink Cows showcased ‘I am Fabulous’ collection focusing on story-telling through design as a celebration. Love & folkloric charm was central theme running through their clothes, where each piece was couture-inspired and hand crafted.


Fashion designer Sumit Das Gupta showcased his Autumn/Winter collection themed ‘Nari Shakti’, expressing concept of woman as a symbol of nature, love, emotion, creator and power. Fashion destination, Jabong’s Spring/Summer collection for its exclusive kids’ brands Zucchini and Evolve were all about trendy graphic tees, stylish bottomwear, printed dresses and smart shirts, Indo-western wear and party dresses in bright shades. With the official launch of its website Brown Bows made its debut into the world of boy’s fashion by showcasing its collection under the theme ‘Boys’ Day Out’.

The final day of IKFW in Mumbai saw styled by Barbie, Pooja Jhunjhunwala for PARA, Kidzania Parade, Era creation, Max Retail, Brown Bows, O.K.S. Boys and Vikram Phadnis. Barbie’s collection highlighted brand’s signature styles through its themes like pink, playful, iconic, luxe and full of sparkle-shine called Born to Bloom, Hello Malibu, Pinkerrific and Sweet Socialite. The range includes casual dresses, tops, tees and skirts.

Para from sister-duo Pooja Jhunjhunwala and Rachna Pujara exhibited high couture and casual wear for boys between the age groups of 2 to 10 years. Pooja Creations’ ERA, a decade-old brand by Nikhil & Amit Furia, also presented their creations. And for Max Fashion, the leading international fashion brand, kids walked wearing their latest in apparel, footwear and accessories.

And spreads to Delhi

The two-day event in Delhi had celebrity showstopper Karisma Kapoor walking the ramp. The show started with Biba’s children’s label Biba Girls new ‘Magical Summer Collection’. Medha Nanda showcased her line called ‘Lotus’, a representation of rebirth, purity and enlightenment followed by Sheena Creations, an online boutique for children’s wear and accessories, which presented a collection that juxtaposes New York chic with classic comfort. Designer Kirti Rathore brought Rajasthani flavor on the ramp with her exclusive range featuring sherwanis .

The finale was a grand show by Kidology where ace designers showcased their own interpretation of the term. Designers Gauri and Nainika presented ultra-feminine styles with old world charm, dressing up little girls resonating their world of fairytales, Gaurav Gupta’s collection featured a twist to tradition with the conventional lehenga turning into a gown in stunning colours. Siddartha Tytler’s range had bold colours, intricate embroidery, sharp cuts and a dash of bling.

The second day saw celebrity chef Kunal Kapoor and his nine-year-old son walk in style with boys wearing footwear from online shoe portal Little Royals. While Nauti Nati displayed a party wear range, Kanchan Bawa’s outfits were inspired by the smiles of the happy kids. Max Retail and Mimmi & Maggie also showcased their line in Delhi. Jabong brought ensembles from three international brands — Elle Kids, Fox Kids and Tommy Hilfiger Children on the ramp. And acclaimed designer Ritu Beri gave a fitting finale to the show with her contemporary designs.
